The free software is Photo Story 3 from Microsoft, the ideas for use come from a BT website: http://www.bteducation.org/resources/view.ikml?id=184&mailid=20060428-165 The BT website tells you how and where to obtain the software, and has ideas for use in a variety of curriculum areas. Basically PhotoStory allows you to create a movie from a series of still pictures. Voice over and/or background music can also be added.
An example of a movie created using this software in a KS 2 geography context can be found by following this link. The clip shows an area near to the source of the River Darwen, and inlcudes a commentary asking a number of questions.
